Explorers Remembrance Camp + Video

During Nov 21-23 weekend four of our Explorers (Jonathan, Jamie, Daniel and Adam) accompanied me to fulfil an act of Remembrance.  The link below will take you to a video put together to commemorate the trip.

The camp was the end result of collective effort to mark the occasion of 100 years passing since the start of the First World War.  The Explorers used the occasion to cycle (50+km) around some important sites in the Ypres Salient.  We took the time to locate and pay our respects to Scoutmasters who had left their troops behind to join the army and ‘do their duty’, and who didn’t make it back.

One of the highlights was the laying of a wreath at the Menin Gate Memorial.  It made me swell with pride watching our Explorers perform this act of Remembrance.  Like me, it’s an experience they will never forget.
