Congratulations to our new Gold Award recipients!

On Monday, March 16th, 1st Waterloo (International) Scout Group awarded the Gold Award to seven young people. In front of a large group of Scouts, Explorers, Leaders and parents, the awards were presented by the Benelux/Scandinavia District Commissioner (and former 1st Waterloo Group Scout Leader) John Nordkvelle on behalf of Scout Leader Andrew Girvan, Assistant Scout Leader Fiona Dearden and the ever-present Scout Active Support member Stuart Leadley.

In addition, a very special guest traveled from the UK to join the ceremony. Former Scout Leader Rob Whitton, who returned to the UK last summer after a long secondment in Belgium and many years leading the 1st Waterloo Scout Troop. Rob’s visit was a great surprise to the Gold Award recipients and the rest of the 1st Waterloo community, but he didn’t want to miss an opportunity to congratulate these seven young people whom he had led for many years as their Scout Leader.

The seven young people were a good mix of new Explorers who recently turned 14 and changed sections, older Scouts who are finishing their final term in the Troop as well as some Scouts who still have nearly a year remaining in this section.

The entire 1st Waterloo community is very proud of its new Gold Award recipients and look forward to many more years of Scouting adventures with them!
